eastern box turtle thumb The line art version of the Eastern Box Turtle was completed in 2005 and the digital tinting added in 2007. This drawing won the 2005 Virginia Herpetological Society's t-shirt design contest.

Information about the Eastern Box Turtle:

Eastern Box Turtles are found in the eastern United States. These reptiles inhabit open woodlands, pastures, and marshy meadows. They are omnivorous, and prefer vegetation, mushrooms, snails, earthworms and grasshoppers. It is often found near streams and ponds. They are usually about 4.5 inches long and weigh 1-2 pounds. Box turtles can live to be 25 years or older. It is the official reptile of the state of North Carolina and Tennessee.
