Artist's notes:
 This
piece is a favorite of mine. I had just started incorporating
color into the illustrations and the Scarlet Macaw could
arguably be considered the most colorful animal on the planet.
The drawing is based on an photo taken by C. and S. Anderson.

Information about the Scarlet Macaw:
Scarlet Macaws are found in the humid lowland subtropical
rain forests, open woodlands, river edges, and savannas
of Central and South America. Body length is approximately
3 feet with the tail comprising approximately 1/3 - 1/2
of this. Tail feathers of males may be longer than females.
Macaws feed mostly on fruits and nuts including large, hard
seeds. The Scarlet Macaw can live up to 75 years, although,
a more typical lifespan is 30 to 50 years. It is the national
bird of Honduras.
