blue and yellow macaws thumb The Blue and Golden Macaws illustration is based on photos and sketches I did at the Oakland Zoo. The vibrant colors of these amazing birds is truly a wonder. I love seeing them whenever I visit the zoo.

The Blue and Yellow Macaw, also called the Blue and Gold Macaw, belongs to a group of neo-tropical parrots. They live in the tropical forests of South America. They are large birds reaching over 30 inches long and weighing 2-3 pounds. Like most parrots these birds mate for life. They are very popular as pets largely due to their beautiful plumage and curious ability to mimic short human phrases.
