These birds are often spotted in the San Francisco Bay, and it was a pleasure to draw one. The patterns of the feathers proved a little tricky, but I ended up using them to help define the contours of the body and wing. I wasn't sure what to do with the water, so I somewhat mineralized it, as I hope the focus will be mainly on the bird itself.
| Information about the Western Grebe:Western Grebes are the largest of the North Ameican grebes. It is often found in large inland lakes, saltwater beaches and bays, and coastal freshwater marshes during the breeding season. It is know for a spectaculars courtship display, where both birds will rear up on their legs and splash lightly across the water's surface.
