Artist's notes:
The
caracara was drawn in about 2004 I think and the color added
in 2007. I love the pose of this bird of prey. I have never
seen one in the wild, but I did observe one at a rescue
center in Austin, TX.

Information about the Crested Caracara:
The Crested Caracara is sometimes called the 'Mexican
Eagle'. But is more like a something between a falcon and
a vulture of the tropics. It has long legs and is a medium-sized
bird of prey with a wingspan of about 48 inches. It ranges
from the extreme Southwestern US down through Central America
into northern parts of South America. It is the national
bird of Mexico.
