Artist's notes:
This
centipede was commissioned by a design firm for a series
of signs that were intended to be part of the
Stone Oak Park interpretive trail in San Antonio, Texas.
Last I had heard, however, was that the project was on hold
and there were doubts that it would ever be completed. Which
is a shame, because I worked very hard on these images.
Could be that someday they'll be used for another project.

Information about the Giant Red-Headed
Centipede:
The Giant Redheaded Centipede is part of
the order of Scolopendromorpha and the family Scolopendridae.
They are aggressive and move very quickly. They are one
of the largest centipedes on the planet. They are generally
about six and a half inches long but may reach up to eight
inches. They are found in the central and southern US and
into northern Mexico. Their bright coloration is thought
to be a warning to potential predators. They are poisonous
but the toxin is only dangerous to their prey. Bites to
humans are rare, due in large part to the fact they are
not frequently encountered.
